Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in an unfavourable situation, or that the world is working against you? Maybe you pushed so hard to make something happen and it just didn’t work out, or you regret a choice you recently made. Maybe you cannot seem to maintain a positive mindset in the midst of something going wrong.
When things in life get difficult and you experience an unfavourable situation, it’s helpful to look at the situation from a different mindset. After all your mind is your greatest asset and it can change your whole reality.
By trying to maintain a positive mindset, you can take every experience you perceive as negative and find the positive in it. You can then ask yourself – what did you learn from that experience?
Every single experience can teach you something; and it is helpful to transform how you perceive the negative situation.
The Best Way to do this:
- Avoid reacting impulsively to the negative situation you are experiencing.
- Take a step back and ask yourself – What is this situation or person teaching me about life or about myself?
- Use the “this is good because…” method
This is Good Because Method
The This is Good Because Journaling Method is a simple exercise to transform a negative experience into a learning experience.
I personally have used it before and it is also mentioned in Jen Sincero’s – You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life book. Side note: this is such a good book and you can also find more of my book recommendations in my Books that Changed my Life blog post!
The goal of the this is good because journaling method is to highlight the positive in an unfavourable situation; therefore, transforming it into a learning experience.
It goes like this…
Write down your perceived negative experience in a journal, and reflect on it by using the sentence, “this is good because…” as a framework.
You can use this exercise with any perceived negative experience in your life, and transform it into a learning experience! Once you decide to keep learning from life and what it has to offer (good or bad), the world around you will start working with you instead of against you.
